Purbeck Ceramics Jug: Blue Floral Pattern: 9 cm. high

A very pretty jug with a floral design featuring a blue flower; there is also another floral motif on the back (see photo).  The backstamp reads ‘Purbeck Ceramics, Swanage, Made in England’ with a swan motif in the centre (see photo).  The Purbeck Pottery was established at Swanage near Bournemouth in Dorset in the mid-1960s and produced a range of stoneware studio pottery designed by Robert Jefferson, formerly of the Poole Pottery. Purbeck Ceramics seems to be a branch of the pottery which produced a range of pretty table and decorative ware: I think that it has been connected to the Aldridge Pottery in Staffordshire. The Purbeck Pottery moved to Poole, Dorset in 1995, so this jug must have been produced some time before that date: possibly the 1970’s or 80’s.
